Craig Jefferson has made hundreds of ‘head studies’ (based on self-portraits) which push beyond observational studies and his developing figure compositions create narratives that present profound questions about what it means to be human.

Inspired by a long list of figurative artists such as Rembrandt, Matisse, Bonnard and Cezanne, and more contemporary painters such as Auerbach, Kossoff, and the Bay Area group, Craig has sought to develop his own language, interpretation and understanding of the figure.
